Should I sleep with compression stockings after a phlebectomy and radiofrequency ablation?

The first night I slept with my leg wrapped with bandage. The next day I took them off and I have been wearing compression stockings, but I'm not sure if I have to sleep with them. It is a little uncomfortable to sleep with them.

We typically do not recommend that you sleep in compression stockings after the first 48 hours. It is uncomfortable to sleep in them, and it is not adding much benefit at that point.

I recommend my patients sleep in them for around 2-4 days after lasers, RF or phlebectomies, and then wear the compression hose daily for around 3 weeks. Often, patients say it is more comfortable to sleep in the hose.

You do not have to sleep with them on, unless you want to because it feels better.

Medical grade (20-30 mmHg) venous compression stockings should be worn overnight for the first, and ideally the second, night following an ablation and phlebectomy. Then, it should be worn during the day and while exercising for the next four weeks for optimal healing.

You should discuss this with your surgeon. I typically leave my patients in the dressing/hose for 48 hours and then they wear the hose only during the day and remove at night.

I experienced severe bruising and intense pain 8 days after ambulatory phlebectomy and EVLT. I could not even touch the area from my right groin all the way down to my knee. I followed all of the doctor's orders given post-op. Upon a recheck yesterday, no infection was found, but during the ultrasound the pain upon the docs pressing the area was excruciating and I felt a burning sensation go all the way up leg. What's going on? Could I have a hematoma?
