You may have a residual vein that is inflamed or has some trapped blood. I would recommend your surgeon do an ultrasound to see what the problems is. Low heat often and compression hose, Advil or Aleve may also help.

Pain can still occur months after a treatment, however, if the lump is hard and painful, it is possible there is trapped blood that should be aspirated. This is a simple procedure of nicking the lump and pressing to release the blood, which should relieve the pain. You should call your doctor and make a follow-up appointment.

It is possible to have retained coagulum. I recommend you see your physician for possible drainage (putting a small needle into the vein and draining the retained debris). You can also try to massage the area and apply heat. Your body should resorb the retained lump over time.

What this is is a hematoma following the microphlebectomy. This occurs from trapped blood under the microphlebectomy incision and is very common. Ibuprofen and wet heat to the area will help. If it bothers you, then it can be drained under local anesthesia. Follow up with your treating physician.

I experienced severe bruising and intense pain 8 days after ambulatory phlebectomy and EVLT. I could not even touch the area from my right groin all the way down to my knee. I followed all of the doctor's orders given post-op. Upon a recheck yesterday, no infection was found, but during the ultrasound the pain upon the docs pressing the area was excruciating and I felt a burning sensation go all the way up leg. What's going on? Could I have a hematoma?
