Sclerotherapy treatment can be used for the purposes of taking care of the esthetic portion after medical treatment has been completed, like in your case. Superficial areas that look affected and show spider veins or dilated bulging veins can be treated with sclerotherapy and you should expect at least 50-75% improvement of overall appearance with each treatment. Most patients may need between 2 to 6 cosmetic sclerotherapy treatments. Staying out of direct sunlight for 3 to 4 weeks following spider vein treatment is recommended, otherwise, wearing sun block or protective clothing is an alternative. The reason why is to prevent hyper-pigmentation or darkening of the treated area. Although, hyper-pigmentation can happen and is a side effect, it is typically temporary. However, sun exposure can worsen or delay normal process to obtain optimum results after treatment.
