Are 20-30 mmHg compression socks safe for travel? Or, are 15-20 mmHg a better and safer choice?

I have read about the numerous benefits of wearing compression socks for travel, but wasn't sure if starting at 20-30 mmHg was too high. The socks I purchased are SO comfortable. I have to travel out of town quickly, and I am concerned about DVT's and traveling.

20 to 30 compression is fine. If it is a long flight try stretching and walking at intervals.

Either are fine. There is no danger in wearing properly fitted 20-30 mmHg socks for travel as opposed to the 15-20 mmHg.

It doesn't matter. Movement is more effective to prevent DVT than compression hose.

15-20mmHg compression is usually recommended for normal legs without any varicose veins as a means of increasing venous return and reducing venous pressure. If you have any vein issues, then more compression is recommended. For travel, since your calf muscles are not being used enough, increased compression is recommended and 20-30 mmHg is the ideal.

It is not a matter of safety. They are both safe. 20-30 mm Hg stockings are prescription based. Both will be helpful to reduce likelihood of superficial and deep vein thrombosis for travel exceeding 4 hours and for any type of travel: air, car, train.

However, due to severe psoriasis and eczema on my feet, I cannot wear full-coverage stockings that cover them. They must always be in wet dressings, but cannot be fully covered. Would footless compression stockings be just as effective as full-coverage hose following the procedure?
