What could be causes of heal and arch pain after foam sclerotherapy?

Two weeks ago I had foam sclerotherapy on my lower greater saphenous vein. After the procedure I had increased swelling and pain in my foot and ankle. I went to the ER to determine if I had a DVT. The scan was negative. The swelling has gone down quite a bit but I still have a lot of pain in the arch and heal of my foot. It hurts to the point where it can be difficult to walk on it. Just a note, I have no prior foot or heal issues.

It may be possible that some of the sclerotherapy solution went down to the veins in the foot and caused an inflammation of the veins (phlebitis). It should be possible to see this on ultrasound examination. I would return to your surgeon and have him check as this is unusual. I would advise to wear compression hose, take advil or aleve several times per day and apply low heat over the areas as often as possible - that is, if this is inflammed veins.

Hard to say for sure. I think the concern about DVT is warranted. I am glad to hear the scan was negative. Sometime especially with swelling there can be pain in foot with the compression stocking. I would definitely go back to your doctor and see what he/ she has to say.
