Why did I form dead tissue around my microablation site that needed to be removed?

After a closure procedure and microablation, what would cause the tissue in the treatment area to die, requiring me to have to have it opened up and have the dead tissue removed?

It's only a guess, but too much local anesthetic (especially one containing epinephrine) could cause a localized area of ischemia and subsequent tissue necrosis.

Anytime you are treating vein issues, you are basically forcing the vein closed using either a laser/RF or a chemical sclerosant. What it sounds like is that you actually got a chemical burn from the injection during the micro ablation procedure. It is a potential complication whenever someone is undergoing sclerotherapy. The dead tissue is the the result of the chemical burn.

You probably had a skin burn from the laser closure that required debridement.

I've not heard of this before. It's possible the energy from the radiofrequency was affecting tissues outside the vein. That would be my best guess.

Out of the 2000 procedures done in this office, we have never seen this happen. You might want to get a second opinion.

This is a wound care issue and every patient heals differently. Ask your doctor for an explanation.
