Venous treatments at Estea Laser Cosmetic Vein Center Long Beach
Nearly half of adults in the US have unsightly and painful varicose veins. Both women and men can suffer from varicose veins, but the condition is more common in women.
Varicose veins can appear near the surface of your skin, or exist deeper in your legs. Veins that are close to your skin and branch off into smaller veins can commonly become varicosed. It may be disturbing to see these superficial veins bulging and swollen, and it's even worse when they are painful and cause fatigue, swelling, and achiness. Varicose veins can also cause more serious conditions like blood clots and leg ulcers.
Deep varicose veins may not be visible because they are encased by connective tissue and muscle. These veins help to pump your blood back up to your heart using one-way valves to keep blood flowing in one direction. If these valves become faulty then your blood can reverse direction and pool, causing varicose veins. This condition can cause dull throbbing or burning pain.
Common causes of varicose veins include:
- Hormonal changes
- Prolonged standing
- Increased abdominal pressure due to tight clothing
Varicose veins can be treated and removed in an outpatient or in-office setting. Local anasthesia is used for your comfort, and the problem vein is collapsed and sealed closed by inserting a tiny catheter into the damage vein. The catheter uses radio frequency energy to heat the vein wall. This treatment causes very little pain, and is the least invasive, safest, and most effective treatment for varicose veins today.
