My wife is wearing a thigh high compression stocking. She gets groin pain. Is that normal?
General - 2 weeks ago1 answer
Doctors discovered a massive blood clot in her leg when pregnant. It was from her pelvis to her knee. The baby was fine through all of this and my wife had a surgery after giving birth to remove most of the clot. Doctors believe the clot was there before we got pregnant. She had a stent put in and is on blood thinners for life. Currently on lovanox and asprin. She also has a bone growth. Her femur is 3 time the normal size. Nothing doctors can do about that.

How safe is it to get pregnant with varicose veins?
General - 1 month ago1 answer
I am 29 and have two children. With each pregnancy, my varicose veins have gotten significantly worse. I am otherwise fit and healthy. How safe is it to get pregnant with a third child? My mother was told not to have any more children due to varicosities after her 2nd child (but this was in Europe and in the 80s). What are the risks? My varicose veins showed up during my first pregnancy, stayed, and worsened significantly during the second pregnancy (despite daily compression stocking wear).

Why are the Veins in my legs suddenly more visible?
General - 1 month ago1 answer
I have always had visible veins in my legs. Recently I started my career in yachting which requires walking or standing all day. After a two week charter, the veins in my legs have become extremely visible and there seem to be many more showing than usual. The sight of it is embarrassing and I would like to know what the cause of this may be and what I can do to get normal looking legs. I read somewhere that it may be due to leaking valves? Also, I am also prone to bruising easily.

Can you wear compression stocking for 24-36 hours during your duty rounds?
General - 1 month ago1 answer
I'm a medical clerk and we are not supposed to sleep or even sit down for 24 hours during our duty as we have to constantly walk around to get vitals of patients and other errands. My feet and ankles had edema on my first duty because of that. I was wondering if it's alright to wear compression stockings for 24-36 hours straight? Or do we need to give our legs a rest for a few hours?

Can bulging great saphenous veins (and other leg veins) be normal in skinny people?
General - 2 months ago2 answers
I'm a 19 year old male. I am very skinny (I guess around 8% body fat) and I have very palpable and visible great saphenous veins. They are straight (not twisting), colorless to very light blue, and rather firm. They run from my mid-thigh all the way to my feet. Branches of the vein are also palpable and visible. I have had this all my life, but now it's more extreme. Veins in arms are the same but less firm. There's discomfort in legs during hot weather, but no swelling or color change.

Just diagnosed with superficial blood clot in my inner thigh. The pain is awful! I am on day number 7 with no relief. Best way to get rid of it?
General - 2 months ago2 answers
I am 39 and an overweight smoker. My clot came on very suddenly. It hurts to touch it, or to walk. I have been given a prescription for blood thinners, but they are very expensive. How long before the pain will subside? The swelling has gotten worse almost every day, and I can see and feel that the clot has moved down by my knee now. According to my ultrasound, the clot is approx 8cm in size. I have been told by one doctor that it can't break off into my lungs, but others disagree.

After vein removal my leg swelling came back worse and is more tender. I can not walk on it. Is this normal?
General - 2 months ago1 answer
I'm a 27 year old female. I was born with a large hemangioma that wrapped around the bottom of my leg. By the time I was 4 it was gone but left the bottom of my leg with very little tissue or muscle & very tender. 2 weeks ago my doctor took out some veins and tied off others. The large incision behind my knee does not hurt but the five small ones in my lower leg hurt bad. My swelling came back last night and it is so swollen my incisions look sunk into my leg, its very tender & painful.

Hi I have had phlebitis for five weeks now in my left leg. I have compression stocking and 2 courses of antibiotics with no improvement. What can I do
General - 2 months ago3 answers
The leg was previously damaged by DVT 17 years ago and phlebitis 3 years ago. The pain is really bad and affecting my sleep, mobility etc . It only lasted 3 weeks the previous time, yet this is now five weeks and it's still really bad. My GP doesn't seem to know what else to do with me. Could you advise if there is anything else I can do? how long can this last? Everything I read says it lasts 2 to 3 weeks.
