I have quite a lumpy varicose vein on my left leg. At the moment it doesn't cause too much pain. Should I leave it alone or have it removed?

No symptoms? No treatment is necessary. However, you need to be evaluated by a specialist.

I guess if it doesn't cause too much pain you can watch it for now. It is usually a symptom of underlying vein trouble that would need treatment

Varicose veins are a result of a problem with the venous circulation in your legs. I recommend having a duplex ultrasound to evaluate if you have significant venous insufficiency and depending on those results and your examination, a physician can give you treatment recommendations.

Insurance companies pay for microphlebectomy if patients are having symptoms, e.g. aching, pain, cramping, throbbing, ankle swelling, among others. Unfortunately, this varicose vein is likely to get larger over time and cause problems. The least you should do is wear compression stockings and seek advice from a vein specialist

The vein will only grow larger and more symptomatic. If the pain bothers you enough now (pain, but not too much pain), you should have your veins examined and then you can evaluate your options.

Varicose veins are bulging sacs filled with blood. They may become tender, throb, or lead to inflammation causing thrombophlebitis. Symptomatic veins may be injected (sclerotherapy) if small enough, or surgically removed (stab phlebectomy). Consult a Vascular Surgeon who performs all procedures to evaluate minimally invasive options.
