If the vein were to refill, could I develop a tear and bleed?
Although anything could happen under the right circumstances, bleeding after EVLT is highly unlikely. Slight bleeding at the insertion site may briefly occur when the fiber is withdrawn at the end of the procedure, but this is easily controlled by firm direct pressure for a few minutes before applying the dressing. Laser energy CLOSES the vein which may be why I have never observed bleeding after more than a decade of performing EVLT. Thus, bleeding is very unlikely in the absence of a bleeding disorder.

That is very unlikely

Bleeding from a tear in the vein would be a rare event. Most patients have bruising from the puncture site, and tumescent anesthetic administered, which is a normal after most procedures.

It is possible to have bleeding post EVLT. Depends on where and how long after. Sometimes immediately after you can get it at the initial puncture site. Sometimes significant bruising can occur at different points of the leg along the tumescent sticks.

There should be no risk of post treatment bleeding with EVLT. On occasion if phlebectomy (removal of varicose veins) is performed at the same time there could be a small area of bleeding but local pressure and elevation will take care of it..

Extremely unlikely. The vein is closed.

Highly unlikely. There is minimal bleeding during EVLT. After the procedure, you may notice some pink-tinged liquid on your dressings. This is merely some of the local anesthetic that was used during the procedure that has drained out through the tiny wounds. The chance of a treated vein remaining open or reopening after a procedure is 5% or less. The doctor performing your procedure calculates a dose of energy to deliver to the vein in order to get it to close off and ultimately scar and shrivel away. Sometimes the dose is enough to close off the vein temporarily but not permanently. If this does occur, bleeding is highly unlikely. Instead, the symptoms and bulging veins you initially presented with would likely remain or reoccur quickly. Great question! It's one you should discuss more fully with the doctor planning to do your EVLT as that doc is more informed about your particular medical history than I am. Be well!

Bleeding is a potential risk for any surgical procedure. When properly performed by a board certified vascular surgeon, the chances for significant bleeding are extremely small.

You should not really have much bleeding post EVLA. The incision is usually just a few mm. We usually put a steri strip over it. It is rare that anyone has bleeding but sometimes they bang the incision or the steri strip sticks to the stocking and rips off and may cause some slight bleeding. I would not say it is anything significant
