Compression stockings during hot weather?

I am in my first trimester of pregnancy and suffering from varicose veins (third pregnancy). I wear compression stockings (thigh high) daily, but it's so tough during the hot Summer weather! Any suggestions? Also, any suggestions for varicose veins in the vulva region? Will these go away after birth?

That is difficult to manage in the warmer weather. It is advisable to continue the hose throughout your pregnancy. There is an increased risk of blood clots either deep (deep veins) or superficial (in the saphenous or varicose veins). If possible stay in the air conditioning as much as possible, stay well hydrated and active, and elevate your legs as much as possible, especially if you need to be out of the hose for periods of time. Vulvar varicose veins can be supported with a supportive brace. I like Fembrace developed by nurses which are like underwear with padding much like bicyle shorts. The padding pressure can be increased with velcro straps. These can be purchased on line. Often after the first pregnancy these resolve. Subsequent pregnancy can cause increased discomfort, even pain. We typically inject these after delivery and nursing stops.

It is difficult to wear compression hose during hot weather and especially if you are pregnant. I would recommend only knee high stockings and I always tell patients to compromise a little bit---you do not need to wear them outside in the hot weather. Wear them when you are in the house where it is air conditioned and more comfortable. When you are home wear thmn and remove them when you go out. Vulva varicosities will usually improve after pregnancy and if they persist they can be treated by sclerotherapy.

My vascular surgeon did an ultrasound and prescribed endovenous laser ablation. She also suggested that I wear compression stockings after the procedure. However, due to severe psoriasis and eczema on my feet, I cannot wear full-coverage stockings that cover them. They must always be in wet dressings, but cannot be fully covered. Would footless compression stockings be just as effective as full-coverage hose following the procedure?
